The new MacBook Air is having its first sale, just in time for back to school

Save $100: You never forget your first price drop. As of Aug. 18, The 2022 MacBook Air is on sale for $1,099 at Amazon — this 8% discount marks the first time the laptop has dropped below its $1,199 MSRP.

Back-to-school shopping can get pricey quick, but that doesn't mean you have to sacrifice buying the latest and greatest to save some cash. At least, not when it comes to your laptop.

As of Aug. 18, the latest MacBook Air is on sale for $1,099 at Amazon. The $100 price drop is the very first one on this MacBook since its release in July, but it does only apply to the model with 256GB of storage in the color starlight.

The MacBook Air is usually a favored pick by students due to its portability and more affordable price point. The 2022 model comes at a slightly higher price point than the Airs of years past because it is quite literally different. The M2 processing chip is one of Apple's most powerful chips, meaning you won't be dealing with lag — even if you have 17 tabs open for that research paper at the same time you're Facetiming your friend.

And that's all wrapped in a 2.7 pound, 0.44- inch thick package, with a 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display.

In terms of other specs, you'll find the return of the MagSafe charging port on this MacBook, as well as a headphone jack and two Thunderbolt ports. Like its M1 predecessor, this laptop also has great battery life.

On the con side of things, 256GB isn't a ton of built in storage, but it'll probably be enough for most students — worst case, you can snag an external hard drive with the $100 you save. This MacBook Air also has passive cooling rather than dedicated internal fans, which means that while its quieter than the M2-powered MacBook Pro, it also runs slightly slower, as our friends at PC Mag found in their review. Still, the M2 Air is a bit cheaper.

Basically, if you're looking for a MacBook that's an improvement on the M1 line, but you aren't down to shell out for the highest powered (and highly expensive) MacBook Pros Apple offers, the 2022 Air is a great pick for students and most everyday laptop users alike. Snag it for $100 at Amazon while this sale lasts.
