You can now set Google Maps to download data only over Wi-Fi
There's a new version of Google Maps for Android, and it might just save you a few bucks in those roaming data charges.
From now on, Google Maps will let you switch the app to "Wi-Fi only" mode of operation, which won't download any data unless you're connected to a Wi-Fi network. You can enable the option, which will make the maps operational in "offline areas" when there's no Wi-Fi connection available, in the app's settings.
Once you turn on this feature, the app will warn you that a small amount of data might still be transferred, but it will be "significantly less" while on Wi-Fi only. Read more...
