Hackers demand $3.4 million in Hollywood hospital data attack

The computer system of a Hollywood hospital is being held ransom for $3.4 million, according to BBC.

The staff at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center has been offline for more than a week due to a “ransomware” incident and has been using pen and paper to log daily tasks. The hospital says, however, patient information has not been compromised.

Ransomware is a form of malware that encrypts data once it gets into a system, including documents, photos and other programs. Hackers demand money in exchange for an access code to unlock the data. Read more...
