Newsweek to Shutter U.S. Print Edition After 79 Years


After 79 years in print, Newsweek will go digital-only in 2013. The newsweekly, which merged with The Daily Beast two years ago, will publish its last print edition in the U.S. on Dec. 31.

Layoffs, both in Newsweek's U.S. and international offices, will ensue, Tina Brown, editor-in-chief of The Newsweek Daily Beast Company, said in a note published on TheDailyBeast.com.

Newsweek will re-emerge next year as Newsweek Global, a digital-only publication targeted at a "highly mobile, opinion-leading audience who want to learn about world events in a sophisticated context," per Brown's description.
