How to Quickly Make Great Black and White PowerPoint Presentations

Now that you've seen some templates let's learn how to customize them.

For this tutorial, I'll be using the premium Black White Project Vol. 1 template.

Download a copy of the template to follow along with the steps below. Let's get started:

1. How to Add a Picture to a Slide

There are two ways to add a picture to the template:

For the first method, click on Insert Picture from the File button in the picture placeholder. After you click the button locate the picture that's saved on your device. Double click the picture you want to add.

The second way to add an image is to click on the Insert tab above the toolbar. Then select the down arrow next to the pictures button. Depending on where your picture is located, select the option that's best for you.

Next, locate the picture and double click. It'll be added to your slide. With this second option, you may need to resize the image.

2. How to Change an Object’s Color

Now we'll be using slide 29 of the black and white PowerPoint template. You can change part of an object (if it's an object like the one shown above). Or change the color of the whole object. 

To change just part of the object's color, click on the whole object. You'll know that the whole object is selected when a box with handles around it appears around the object. Click on the part of the object that you want to change the color of. 

Next, click on the Shape Format tab. Click on the arrow button next to the Shape Fill tab. This will cause a drop-down menu of colors to appear.

Choose the color that you want to change your object to.

To change the entire object's color just select the object once. Click on the color that you want in the drop-down menu.

3. How to Delete Text

We'll be using slide 14 on the black and white presentation to show you how to delete text. To do so, click in the text that you want to delete. You'll know that you've selected the text if a text box appears around the text.

Highlight all the text you want to delete. Press the Delete button on your keyboard.

4. How to Change the Font

We'll be using slide 14, the same slide as in step 3, to show you how to change the font size and type.

To change the font, highlight all the text that you want to change the font of. Next, go to the Font menu and click the arrow next to it. This will cause a list of all available fonts to drop down. 

From this drop-down list, choose the font that's right for you. To change the font size, go to the Font menu. The Font Size menu is next to it. 

Click on the arrow next to the number in the Font Size menu. Next, choose the font size that's right for you.

5. How to Add Narration to Your Slide

We'll still be working with slide 14.

To add narration to your slide you'll first need a microphone. Once you've connected a microphone, click on the Insert tab above the toolbar.

Next, click on the arrow next to the Audio button. This will cause a menu to drop down. Now, click Record Audio from the menu.

This will cause a text box to pop up. Then, click the Record button to start recording. When you're done with your narration click the Stop button to stop recording.

Listen to what you've recorded by pressing the Play button. To add the audio to the slide, click the Insert button in the pop-up window.

5 Simple Black and White PowerPoint Presentation Design Tips

A black and white PowerPoint presentation is often seen as a minimalist design. Here are a few tips that'll turn your PPT into a minimalist black and white presentation:

1. Keep It Clean

The first and most important tip is to keep your slides as clean as possible. This means: don't overcrowd them with unnecessary elements and remember the white space. 

The area between the design elements in any composition is called white space. Slides with white space on either side of the design look cleaner and uncluttered. 

2. Use Custom Fonts

A PowerPoint template with white background is already a minimalist template. Don't make it boring by using the fonts we all know. Instead, get a custom font.

3. Focus on Visual Elements

To add narration to your slide you'll first need a microphone. Once you've connected a microphone, click on the Insert tab above the toolbar.

4. Save Time With Slide Master

This is a great tip to save time while you're editing your PPT presentation. The slide master controls the design for your PowerPoint slides. When you use the slide master you don't need to make same change to each slide.

Instead, apply a change to a slide master. The change will appear on all the slides that use the same master. Just go to the tab Slide Master in PowerPoint and edit it right there.

5. Add Infographics and Charts

We've talked about the importance of visual elements in your PPT slides. Visual elements are also important if your presentation includes numbers and data. Add data as infographics and charts rather than text.

Your presentation will be more visually attractive. And your audience will find it easier to understand.

A pro template and the tips I’ve shared above will help you design a good-looking presentation. But if you want your presentation to stand out, here are some presentation design trends to keep in mind:

1. Images Don’t Have to Be White
