- How to create stripes texture in Photoshop from scratch
- How to turn a Photoshop stripe pattern into a Photoshop stripe brush
1. How to Create a Horizontal Photoshop Stripe Brush
Step 1
Create a New File using the dimensions 200 x 50 px and a white background.
Step 2
Press D to reset the swatches. Go to Image > Canvas Size, set the Height to 100 px, and Anchor it to the top. Make sure the Canvas extension color is set to Foreground (black).
Step 3
Go to Edit > Define Pattern and name it Stripe.
Step 4
Create a New File using the dimensions 3000 x 3000 px and a white background.
Step 5
Open the Brushes palette and pick the brush that you'd like to use as a base for your stripe brush. I recommend Kyle Ultimate Pastel Palooza from the Dry Media Brushes set—it will give you a nice grunge effect.
Step 6
Go to the Brush Settings. Go to the Texture tab and replace the texture with your new Stripe pattern.
Step 7
Lower the Depth until the stripes become visible. Then adjust the other settings to create the effect you need.
Step 8
If you're happy with the effect, click the plus icon on the bottom and give your new brush a name.
2. How to Create a Diagonal Photoshop Stripe Brush
Step 1
If you want a diagonal stripe brush, you need a slightly different approach. Create a New File using the dimensions 200 x 200 px and a white background.
Step 2
Take the Rectangle Tool (U). Set the Mode to Shape and Fill to Black.
Step 3
Click somewhere on the canvas and set Width to 200 px, Height to 100 px.
Step 4
Select both layers, take the Move Tool (V), and Align Horizontal and Vertical Center.
Step 5
Select the Shape layer alone, and press Control-T. Set Vertical Skew to 45 or -45 (depending on which direction you prefer). Press Enter twice.
Step 6
Go to View > Pattern Preview and click OK. Then go to Edit > Define Pattern and name it Diagonal Stripe.
Step 7
You can now apply this pattern to a brush the same way as before.
