Hatje Cantz is pleased to announce the publication of Loris Grauds definitive monograph, The Unplayed Notes & The Underground Sculpture Park2012-2020, with text by curator, critic, theorist and long-time collaborator Nicolas Bourriaud. The monograph will be accompanied by a special limited edition release for collectors.

The monolith features more than 300 hundred artworks spread across 500 pages and traces eight years of aesthetic experiments and adventures, with a single obsession: the attention given to the work and space of Grauds immersive exhibition, The Unplayed Notes, which has traveled to venues in Paris, New York, Dallas, Venice and Puerto Escondido, Mexico.

Through The Unplayed Notes, Graud invites readers to travel through a host of fantastical stories, from the (sur)natural history museum cleverly vandalized to the reactivation as poetic as it is disturbing of an old glass factory to the burial ad vitam of sculptures in a subterranean park in the heart of the desert. The book traces the trajectory of a few thousand kilometers, a singular tale from which only the in-betweens and silent interstices should be retained: a porous history of our reality, and that of the unplayed notes.

Twenty limited editions have been created especially for collectors. A Plexiglas box encases the book, which is literally buried in the earth taken from the artist's studio. A veritable sculpture, the box is sealed by a system of nickel screws, whose key is itself buried in the earth contained in the box; it is therefore invisible and inaccessible. The set is presented in a cardboard case enhanced with hot gilding and accompanied by a certificate signed and numbered by the artist.

All proceeds from the sale will benefit The Sense of Silence Foundation, founded by Professor Michel Andr to monitor biodiversity and listen to the sound of Nature to save humankind, for which Graud serves as an ambassador.
