My Baseline Mac Setup

dev.to is full of "Check Out My Setup" and "Configure Your Terminal" posts, for better or worse...

Well, it's time to be corny and add my own article to that list! Please don't judge this too harshly. Most of this is a public & refactored version of a GitHub gist that I walk through whenever I get a new Macbook, whether it be for work or for personal use. I will try to dive into the tooling and functionality a bit more so that you understand why I choose it as my baseline.

First Things First; iTerm

Gosh, I don't know if I could live without iTerm2, because it's window and session management is leagues above the normal OSX Terminal. This is always the first thing that I install on any Macbook that I know I'll be using, because I just like the feel, customization, and mobility that iTerm provides over native Terminal. Check out their Features page to see what the fuss is about, but the nice multi-pane/multi-tab controls are enough to justify it's usage to me.

JUsT lEArn tmux InsTEad

Yes, I understand tmux provides multi-session control and that's 90% of what I use iTerm2 for...but I'm a bad developer who never took the time to learn tmux, and its worked just fine for me so far.
