Tour of an insanely expensive supermarket in Barrow, Alaska where 1/2 a watermelon is $37
Barrow, Alaska (pop. 4,335) sits on the northernmost tip of the state. Because of its remote location, groceries are expensive -- really expensive. This friendly couple takes us on a tour of the local supermarket, which also sells hand made dresses and all terrain vehicles. A bag of Tostitos tortilla chips here are "on sale" for $10.74. A single roll of toilet paper is $2.60. A box of Froot Loops is $9.73. A gallon of milk is $10. A gallon of water is $9.59. A tomato is $4. And one half of a watermelon is $37. I'm going to watch this video again before going to Whole Foods.
