How to Add Links to Excel in 60 Seconds

A spreadsheet is an interactive canvass for logging data and using formulas. The cells of a spreadsheet can hold a variety of things including hyperlinks. Let's look at two types of links in Excel that we can add to a spreadsheet. 

How to Add Links in Excel to Spreadsheets Quickly

1. Click on an Excel Cell to Add a Link to It

First of all, let's make sure that we've clicked in a cell so that we can add something to it.

2. Go to Insert and Apply the HyperLink Option

Now, let's go to the Insert tab on the ribbon and click on it. Next, I'll find the Hyperlink option and click on it. The menu that pops up allows us to add links. On the left side, I'll make sure that I've selected the Existing File or Web Page option.

3. Insert a Link in Excel to a Website URL

In the Address box, I'll type in a URL to a website to link to in my spreadsheet. I'll also add some text if I want a different preview to show than the URL itself. 

Then I'll click OK, now that we've got the hyperlink in the spreadsheet. I'll click on it and the link will open in a browser.

4. Add a Link in Excel to a Sheet

I'll go ahead and switch back to my spreadsheet and next we'll add a hyperlink to a different tab in the workbook. You can use the same option, but this time we'll choose the Place in This Document option and choose another sheet name. Clicking on that new hyperlink will now take me to another sheet.

Finishing Up!

You can quickly add links in Excel to offsite web pages, internally to sheets in your workbook, or to documents or resources elsewhere.
