Audi says Apple CarPlay, Android Auto are not a 'connected car' solution

LAS VEGAS — If you were hoping that the introduction of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto into your new car's dashboard would mean that the two tech giants would soon dominate all in-car infotainment, especially when it comes to "connected car" services, you might want to think again.

So far as Audi is concerned, it can do in-car navigation and infotainment better than either Apple or Google.

"If you want a connected car, the solution is not Android Auto or Apple CarPlay," Peter Steiner Managing Director Audi Electronics Venture told Mashable at the 2016 International CES. "Google Maps will never be a replacement for a built-in navigation or cloud mapping." Read more...
