This $399 3D printer is disappointing in all dimensions

New Matter’s affordable MOD-T 3D printer is a lesson in futility — the futility of form over substance.

The $399 printer was designed by Frog Designs, the same company that helped create the iconic look of early Apple iPods and iPhones. It is undeniably beautiful, and its look was locked in when I spoke to New Matter executives a year and a half ago. Everything else, though, was in flux.
