NRA: Assault Rifle Demonstrators Are 'Downright Scary'

Even the National Rifle Association has a problem with people walking into restaurants carrying machine guns.

The gun-rights advocacy organization, infamous in some circles and celebrated in others, tends to lobby against gun restrictions in all circumstances, most notably after national tragedies involving firearms. But, recently, it publicly broke ranks with members of a group called Open Carry Texas, whose members demonstrate their support for gun rights by carrying military-style, automatic rifles in public.

The Texas group has staged several demonstrations by walking into Chipotle restaurants or queuing up at coffee shops with assault rifles slung across their chests. Walking around with a visible assault rifle (not a handgun) is legal in Texas, but the NRA says it only serves to intimidate people and turn them into potential enemies of the group. Read more...
