Study: Global Travel on the Rise in 2014

Around the world, travelers are planning more international and domestic trips for 2014 compared to 2013, according to a new study released Wednesday.

In 2014, 77% of global travelers said they plan to travel internationally, a 12% increase from 2013. The percentage of global travelers planning domestic trips also increased from 87% in 2013 to 90% this year.

That increase comes despite a certain degree of pessimism in the global economy: Just 70% of hotel managers around the globe said they were confident about profits in 2014.

Travelers' budgets for the top-spending countries are expected to increase significantly in 2014. The average global traveler budget is increasing from $5,955 in 2013 to $6,136 in 2014, according to TripAdvisor. On average, Swiss travelers spent the most in 2013, but are expected to be outspent by Australian travelers this year. Read more...
