Netflix Lowers Streaming Price by $1 for New Members

Aiming to add new members who received Apple TVs, Chromecasts or tablets over the holidays, Netflix has cut its streaming price to $6.99 for new members.

The deal, accessible via Netflix's signup page, lets you watch Netflix on one screen at a time. The two-screen option is $7.99, the price charged for the streaming-only service since 2011, when the company initiated a controversial program to separate streaming from its DVD-by-mail service.

Netflix reps could not be reached for comment on the new pricing. It's not clear whether current members can "downgrade" to the lower-cost plan.
