Radio Host Apologizes for Mocking Steve Gleason's ALS Battle

Ex-NFL player Steve Gleason has become a powerful force of inspiration while publicly fighting the disease ALS. But that didn't stop a sports talk radio show from taking some cheap shots at his condition on Monday morning

The tasteless attempts at humor quickly had one host backpedaling on Twitter and drew an unspecified number of indefinite suspensions by the station

Gleason (pictured above) was a defensive back for the New Orleans Saints in the mid-2000s and produced one of the most iconic plays in franchise history. For a city struggling to bounce back from disaster, he became a symbol of hope and renewal. That's only intensified in recent years as Gleason has used the Internet and social media to rally support for ALS research while he battles the crippling nerve condition also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
