International Artist Feature: Portugal

Welcome back to our International Artist Series!

Today
we're catching up with six amazing artists from Portugal, home of beautiful Portuguese architecture and captivating beaches. I asked each artist how
their country and culture inspired their work, and they delivered great
responses.

Danny Ivan

Danny is a 3D artist and designer from Porto, Portugal. He creates epic 3D illustrations with twisty patterns and cool concepts.

Check out his work below, and see more inhis portfolio.

Digital Artwork Collection

Living in Portugal, most of our people are quite calm here. Being a freelancer in this country, the prices are low but there's a big
quality of life. We have awesome food, cool places, and great artists.

Simple Twist Collection

The region has influenced me a lot, especially with all the light. We have lots of
sun and hot weather, so the colors pop out in every single corner. Also, some of the older
buildings and Portuguese sidewalks are references I use for my work.

Pattern World

the street art scene with artists like Vhils, Odeith, Pantonio and Paulo

Ana Seixas

Ana is an illustrator and designer from Porto, Portugal. Splitting her time between screen printing and illustration, Ana creates lovely flat illustrations of beach scenes and daily life.

Check out her work below, and see more inher portfolio.

At the Beach

I live in Porto. At the center of it is a small village where it's
very easy to run into colleagues and friends and have a cup of coffee in
the middle of the day. Living a "slow life" is really great.

Portugal is a country full of textures and colors. From
the mountains and the magnificent tiles on the building facades to the
patterns on the street floors, it is impossible not to stay inspired by
it.

Viseu - My City

The Fine Arts School is where most great projects are born.
I see musicians working with performers and painters and
illustrators with graphic designers. I believe these kind of
collaborations are what make the art scene rich and energetic.

Last Christmas I Gave You My Heart

Being some kind of an outsider, It took me some time to get to know
people and to be able to work on new projects with local creative people
and companies. I believe it is changing also, and now I feel very
welcome here.

Istituto Miralago in Brissago, Switzerland

It is really about the quality of life here in Portugal. There is good weather
almost every day of the year, everything is close by and the culture is
very relaxed. You can easily bike to work, go have lunch by the river or go see an exhibition.

Parliament Office Building in Reykjavík,Iceland

Portugal, and Lisbon in particular, is very open to external influences. So by living here you get easily exposed to American, English, and German
influences and this makes it easy to stay on top of all my international work.

MCI Campus

The art scene is rejuvenating these days. New museums
and galleries are opening, and many international artists are moving to
Lisbon. So even though we are a tight
group in a small country, our community is rapidly expanding.

Architecture is also
a renowned interest in Portuguese culture, with names like Siza
Vieira and Souto Moura inspiring and cultivating a very strong
architecture community.

Constança Soromenho

Constança is a graphic designer from Lisbon, Portugal. Her work features beautiful branding packages along with logos and more.

Check out her work below, and see more inher portfolio.

N&P - Wedding

For me, Portugal is a small but culturally rich country. Lisbon in
particular is an especially great place to live at the moment. The city
is quiet but vibrant, old but contemporary, familiar but sophisticated.
Also, we have the lovely beaches always near.

Casas do Mar - Branding

I think I'm more influenced by artists and designers than the region or
the country itself. There are a lot of inspirational, brilliant
Portuguese in the art and design community right now.

The Garden

The art community is better than ever. We are such a small country but
have so many names in the architectural, art and design world. Not
only in Lisbon, but especially Oporto, where I think we can find some of
the best small design studios in the country.

Serafim Mendes

Serafim is a graphic designer based in Porto, Portugal. His work features colorful geometric 3D illustrations of creative alphabets and more.

Check out his work below, and see more inhis portfolio.

Alphabet Project II

I like the people, most of all. Portuguese people are laid
back and welcoming and I feel that even more in the town I'm living
in right now, Porto. Oh, and the food! Portuguese cuisine is amazing.

Noir

We do have very good artists who really inspire me,
but I don't think the fact I live in Portugal has too much influence in
my work. My references don't
come from a single place. And with access to the internet, you are able to see work from
people all over the world, at any time.

In Porto, there are always exhibitions going on. It's a very culturally active city. I know

Root / Rot

Portugal is a country rich in culture and traditions. Fortunately there
is a concern in recovering and maintaining them. All the textile
techniques I know today I learned at home, with my grandmothers and mother.

Keep on Rolling

Portugal is a small country but the artistic community is growing day by
day. It’s easy to meet artists in different areas, from the
north to south, and share knowledge.
