Trump hires Breitbart boss to run his campaign

maxresdefault

In a last-ditch effort to shake up his faltering presidential campaign, Republican millionaire Donald Trump has hired Stephen Bannon, the executive chairman of Breitbart News, to run it.

The news, first reported by The Wall Street Journal, was confirmed early Wednesday by Ms. Conway in a brief interview, but she rejected the idea that the changes amounted to a shake-up and said that Mr. Manafort was not being diminished. ... People briefed on the move said that it reflected Mr. Trumps realization that his campaign was at a crisis point. But it indicates that the candidate who has chafed at making the types of changes his current aides have asked for, even though he had acknowledged they would need to occur has decided to embrace his aggressive style for the duration of the race.

Current campaign chairman Paul Manafort isn't being fired, reports the New York Times, but the rather obvious sidelining will be seen as a "demotion." Manafort was exposed last weekend by the Times as the named recipient of $12.7m in cash for consulting services in Ukraine on a "secret ledger."

Bannon reportedly has no experience of running a political campaign, but was described by Andrew Breitbart himself as "the Leni Riefenstahl of the Tea Party movement."

Breitbart's own coverage of the unexpected move comprised of several hundred words copied and pasted from the New York Times.
