Taping over your computer microphone does nothing — here's what to do instead

When Mark Zuckerberg recently posted a photo with his computer in the background, it revealed his paranoia about hackers tapping into not only his webcam, but his microphone, too.

The photo shows the internal microphone, right next to the line in/out, of the Facebook CEO's MacBook covered with what looks like tape.

While putting tape over your microphone seems like it could help with security, Mashable tested Zuckerberg's method with clear tape and thicker gaffer's tape, and neither one reduced the microphone's audio pickup — even when doubled up. Read more...
