Audi drops the top on its R8 Spyder, bringing sun into its techie interior

NEW YORK — Audi's uproarious R8 just lost its roof and got a whole lot sunnier.

Sensible German luxury carmaker Audi gave a rare glimpse at its wild side Wednesday morning at the New York Auto Show when it debuted a bright yellow convertible version of its 2017 R8 supercar. It's called the R8 Spyder and it might be the coolest thing to come out of Ingolstadt, Germany (Audi's hometown) since, well, ever.

Clearly, what separates the Spyder from the Coupe is its cloth soft-top. With a push of a button, the top folds away underneath the rear deck-lid in just 20 seconds. Since it was designed by practical German people, it can be opened or closed while the car is in motion up to 31 mph. That means you'll never get soaked in a surprise summer rainstorm. Read more...
