Apple to FBI: Drop this case and let's figure out digital security together

Apple's war of words with the FBI and U.S. government is far from over, but in the latest salvo Apple CEO Tim Cook pressed his case in a letter to Apple employees and in an extensive Q&A page on the Apple website. He also offered an alternative to continuing legal action.

The suggestion comes a few days after an incendiary call with media where a senior Apple executive made it clear that Apple believes the government wouldn't even have had to ask Apple to create special software to hack terrorist Syed Rizwan Farook's iPhone 5C if county officials hadn't reset the phone's iCloud password. The phone was recovered after Farook and his wife, Tashfeen Malik, killed 14 people in San Bernardino, California, during a shooting rampage in December of last year. Read more...
