Still got it: Cadillac scores with CT6 luxury sedan

When a Cadillac representative told the group of journalists that I was with — all present to be some of the first people in North America to drive the 2016 CT6 full-size sedan — that the car was 1,000 pounds lighter than a comparably equipped Mercedes-Benz S-Class, I winced.

That's because lightness has never really been a concern of luxury buyers. After all, if you're spending $100,000 on a four-door sedan that doesn't truly achieve much more than a $30,000 sedan (aside from looking $70,000 bossier) are you going to really care about curb weight? No, you're not.

Rather, you're going to want your long-bodied leviathan to ride so big and heavy that it feels like it has its own gravitational pull or like it has its own zip code. Full-size luxury sedans are as much a power statement as they are a mode of transportation.
