Hyper-realistic simulation of the sun will scorch your retina

Now that we know what the sun looks like up close, it's a bit easier to craft realistic images of the light-giving star at the center of our solar system.

But Brooklyn-based coder and artist Robert Hodgin took it a huge step further and used the real imagery of the sun that we're familiar with and created a nearly flawless simulation

Using the open source C++ coding tool Cinder, which Hodgin co-created, the 3D terrain simulation delivers so much realism that you can almost feel the heat emanating from the screen.
