Walmart, Barnes & Noble Slash Prices as Hachette-Amazon Feud Continues

It didn't take long for other companies to exploit Amazon's contract dispute with book publisher Hachette.

Walmart and Barnes & Noble have slashed prices on Hachette books, seeking to attract new customers who were accustomed to getting editions from Amazon and now can't. Amazon recently blocked preorders of upcoming Hachette titles and reduced its stock of physical books, creating long wait periods for customers that wished to order its titles

Walmart took the opportunity to offer 40% off "select books" on its main literature page. It did not call Hachette by name, but featured James Patterson, David Baldacci and Nicholas Sparks — three of the publisher's most high-profile authors. Read more...
