Pentagon Mulls Transfer of Chelsea Manning to Facilitate Gender Treatment

The Pentagon may transfer convicted WikiLeaks informant Chelsea Manning to a civilian prison to give her a chance to receive gender disorder treatment, a spokesperson said, confirming the news first reported by the Associated Press.

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel gave the Army permission to start considering a transfer to a civilian facility with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, which normally provides treatment for gender disorder, Lt. Col. Todd Breasseale told Mashable

"However, no decision to transfer Manning to a civilian detention facility has been made," the Army spokesperson said. "And any such decision will necessarily balance the her medical needs with our obligation to ensure that she remains behind bars." Read more...
