Transcendence is not a good movie. Its 19% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and C+ from Cinemascore show that critics and audiences are fairly synced up on this one. But one must give it credit for swinging for the fences. When the movie decides to go dumb, it goes dumb at a blazing high processing speed. General complaints about the film range from “Johnny Depp's barely in it” to “it's a more boring version of The Lawnmower Man (The Yawnmower Man?) but in time we'll recognize Transcendence as the movie that brought something new to cinema: Killer Puddles.
