Russia Forcibly Completes Takeover of Ukraine Military Bases

Shortly before sunrise around 4 a.m. Monday morning, Russian forces stormed one of Ukraine’s last military holdouts in Crimea. Troops descended from helicopters and used armored personnel carriers to ram their way through the gates of a base in Feodosia as pro-Russian militiamen tossed stun grenades and fired shots from machine guns into the air, Ukrainian Defense Ministry spokesman Vladislav Seleznev wrote on Facebook.

The Ukrainian troops, unarmed, reportedly surrendered immediately, allowing Russian forces to effectively complete their eradication of the Ukrainian military from the Black Sea peninsula that was officially annexed by Moscow late last week. Read more...
