Dick Costolo Warns Against Trying To Be Liked And Lionizing Silicon Valley Figures

Screen Shot 2013-09-09 at 12.44.49 PMToday at Disrupt 2013, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo took the stage to deliver some basic leadership tips. The presentation was brief, but seemed like good solid advice that he was directing at the young companies that haven’t gathered “barnacles on the processes of [their] organization yet.” The two simple tips that Costolo shared include not leading by trying to be liked. Care for your employees, he stresses, but don’t what they think about you. He also urged founders not to lionize Silicon Valley figures and their methods. Instead, he says quoting Pinterest CEO Ben Silbermann, they should ‘find their own superpower’. You can watch the full presentation below.
