Instagram Executive Could Usher in Facebook Mentality

Peter X. Deng — one of Facebook's top product managers — has a brand new gig over at Instagram, which could insinuate that the photo-focused social network may be getting a touch of Facebook's "move fast and break things" mentality.

According to The Verge, Ding will be joining the Instagram team as its first director of product. Facebook acquired Instagram in 2012 and although both companies planned to grow independently, things might be about to change.

Deng has had a key influence on Facebook's rapid product expansion over the years, from the Timeline redesign to growing its chat functionality. His addition to the Instagram team could usher in some changes to the platform, but he recognizes what has worked for one site might not work for the other. Read more...
