The First Touchscreen to Recognize Fingerprints

Accessing your private computer from anywhere could save you the trouble of lugging around your laptop, charger and all those assorted add-ons. A pair of German scientists are working on the first step in such a system: a tabletop touchscreen that may be the gateway to leaving your computer at home but still connecting to your personal system.

The touchscreen, called Fiberio, is reportedly capable of recognizing individual fingerprints which, the researchers hope, may make it possible to access content specific to the user. The tabletop tablet's images are projected onto the screen from below, which is comprised of small optical fibers arranged vertically in a flat panel
