Former BlackBerry Chief Says Board Asked Him to Stay In Charge

Amidst Thursday's news that BlackBerry sold 1 million BlackBerry 10 smartphones last quarter, the company also announced that co-founder and former co-CEO Mike Lazaridis has retired from the company's board of directors.

Lazaridis and co-CEO Jim Balsillie stepped down from running BlackBerry (then called Research in Motion) last January and Thorsten Heins took their place.

In an interview with Canada's The Globe and Mail, Lazaridis says that he was asked to stay-on as CEO by the board of directors. "I was asked by the board to reconsider my decision. They wanted me to stay on and help," Lazaridis told the publication. Read more...
