Sony Unveils Worlds First 4K OLED TV


LAS VEGAS -- Plenty of manufacturers have 4K (a.k.a. Ultra HD) TVs here at CES, and plenty also are showing large-size OLED panels. Only one company is combining the two technologies, however, and that's Sony, who just unveiled the world's first 4K OLED set.

Big caveat: The TV is just a prototype right now, with no price, release date or even a release year. However, Sony did show at least two prototypes at CES, so it's well beyond the concept phase.

The screen is 56 inches, so it's a little smaller than most 4K TVs, but it's about as big as the big-screen OLEDs that have been unveiled at the show. To pack the enormous number of pixels required for 4K in such a (relatively) small area,…
