A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, people were already obsessing over the idea of voice command. The technology has a proud history of infiltration into nerd culture and pop culture alike.

When Luke Skywalker's vocal communication with C3PO and R2D2 helped lead to the fall of the evil Galactic Empire, that was a win for voice command. Inspector Gadget's notoriously shoddy voice-activated devices are examples of how the technology can come up short.
