Twitter's edit button has a limit

A Twitter bird icon.

One of Twitter's most anticipated features is rolling out – and so is more clarity on what it will actually look like. The app's much-requested edit button is being tested internally, as announced by Twitter in a recent blog post.

The feature will allow users to make changes to a tweet within a 30-minute period after posting it. Edited tweets will appear with a label saying so. But there's another stipulation – a tweet can only be edited up to five times.

According to Twitter, they are currently working on incorporating feedback to adjust the feature, while also aiming to "protect the integrity of the conversation and create a publicly accessible record of what was said." Thus, the label which will include past versions of the edited tweet.

Twitter's edit button will first roll out to Twitter Blue subscribers in New Zealand, followed by Australia, Canada, and the U.S. This all depends on the usage of the feature.

The cap on how much a tweet can be edited sounds like another way to prevent misuse of the edit button. With only five edits and a time limit, the edit button won't allow for too much messiness or misinformation – well, at least that's what the app is hoping for.
