The ROG Avalon is ASUS' Take on the Cable Free PC

Now that both Gigabyte and MSI have shown off their cable free PCs, ASUS decided to share their own concept, which is very different and entirely cable free. At a first glance, it could easily be confused with a NAS with passive cooling or some kind of HTPC in a passively cooled case, but neither is true. Once you take a closer look, you quickly realise that it has to be one of the most complex PC designs ever done and for apparently no sensible reason. The heatsink looking sides are apparently not at all heatsinks, as the left side houses a discrete graphics card, which sadly requires a cable in an otherwise cable free design. It's unclear what's hiding inside the other side of the chassis, which was co-designed with In-Win.

The motherboard is entirely custom and seems to be about the size of a Mini-ITX board, just stretched out to house four memory slots. Multiple extension boards are attached to the bottom of the motherboard, one for the graphics card, one for the power supply and one for the four front mounted 2.5-inch drive slots, all of which are hot-swappable. Finally the rear I/O is also modular and ASUS showed off three different modules, which they named Virtual Reality, Home Theatre and Workstation. The power supply is following the SFX form factor, but instead of cables, fixed or modular, you'll find a PCB connector. The PSU is a 600 W model and it can be swapped out without cracking the chassis open.
