The iPhone might go fully notchless in two years

Apple iPhone 13 Pro

In the last decade or so, smartphone manufacturers have been obsessed by reducing phone bezels and turning the phones into mostly uninterrupted slabs of glass, at least on the front.

According to a report by reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via MacRumors), Apple's iPhone might reach that ideal state in 2024.

The iPhone 16 Pro — as it may or may not be called — will come with an under-display Face ID system as well as an under-display selfie camera, meaning there would no longer be any need for a notch.

The prediction isn't notable for the timing — after all, we're talking three iPhones into the future, and Apple's plans may very well change until then — but for the fact that Kuo thinks Apple has completely given up on the idea of an under-display Touch ID fingerprint scanner.

Kuo's not the only one to predict this, though. Ross Young, another Apple analyst, said in March that the under-display Face ID is coming to the iPhone 16, whereas the under-display Touch ID is not.

As for the notch, it might actually leave the iPhone in its current form as early as this year. Kuo has previously predicted that the iPhone 14 Pro models will have a pill-shaped cutout on top instead of a full notch.
