Let us first understand the meaning of dark mode? It is one of the thematic elements of websites, applications, and devices and cropped around everywhere. The dark mode is also known as light-on-dark, night mode, and shadow mode.

Once you replace traditional black text /white backgrounds with light-colored text or dark backgrounds, you are in a state of dark mode. You wont believe that dark mode was once commonly used in the earlier computing days. Do you remember those old CRT monitors with green or white texts or white backgrounds with contrary black color? Gradually word processors switched to white screens with black text to imitate the look of ink and paper.

Experts are still perplexed about the impact of a dark mode on eye health. It might be comfortable for some but can create a problem for others.

Technical Aspects about Dark Mode

The dark mode is a display setting for interfaces, like smartphones or laptops. This means that you will are seeing the light color text on the dark or black screen. Light mode is the default setting in many phones and apps. The main aspect behind the dark mode is, it reduces the light that tends to emit through the device screen. It retains the minimum color contrast ratio needed for readability.

Dark modes are now available in both the iPhones and Android handsets, however, you still have to set up dark mode on some apps. Certain PCs also offer dark mode which you can set up on your laptop or desktop.

Dark Mode increases battery life on Some Device

Many smartphones have light-emitting diode (OLED) screens. The objective of these screens is the light that is generated for each screen pixel. So when you have a dark display on the screen, produce less light. The point here is that it applies only to OLED displays. These will not work on devices having liquid crystal displays (LCDs). Though many smartphones leverage OLEDs, laptops and monitors still use LCDs. So the benefit of battery saving facility of the dark mode is only restricted to some devices.

The main benefit of using Dark mode is, it increases visual ergonomics by reducing the chance of eye strain, easing screens to make adjustments according to the light conditions. It also gives the comfort of using your mobile phones at night or in a dark room or area. The dark text is also best for readability. It also reduces the chances of eye strain and helps in low light conditions.

With the maximum of the dark screen, the screen glare is also lessened, thereby reducing the flickering and blue light. Now Dark mode is included in many applications not limited to Android Q dark mode, Facebook dark mode, Google Dark mode, and MacOS 10.14 dark mode.
