DEV, meet Site Reliability Engineering

Today is my first day working with the incredible team that runs this amazing website! I am happy to announce that I have joined the DEV team as a Lead Site Reliability Engineer.

I have been a big proponent and contributor to the DEV community since I joined less than a year ago. Being given the opportunity to contribute now in an official capacity is beyond exciting and I am ready for the challenge.

A Little About Me

I am 30 years old( idk where the time went!) and I live just outside of Chicago, IL with my husband and our two Corgis, Gibbs and Cade.

Two Corgi's sitting on a brick-paved step. One is red and the other is a blue merle color

I am a self-taught software engineer and my path into the software engineering/web development world is a bit unique. If you want to learn more about it checkout the below post:

Once I was in the software engineering world I was hooked and it wasn't long until I found my way to Kenna Security. It was at Kenna that I discovered my passion for Site Reliability Engineering and I found out that nothing beats taking a system, tweaking it and seeing it run optimally.

When I am not pounding on a keyboard you can find me indulging my second passion in life, riding and jumping my show horses. I am also an avid runner(I average 15-20 miles a week) and love snowboarding in the wintertime.

Goals at DEV

As DEV's first Site Reliability Engineer my main priority will be ensuring that the DEV community platform is stable and reliable for everyone. I also have extensive Elasticsearch and Redis experience and I hope to bring that expertise to DEV to help grow and evolve the platform into something everyone can enjoy.

Taking on these tasks for an amazing community such as DEV is incredibly humbling and I feel the weight of the responsibility I have. As I have done in the past, I will work to be as open and candid as possible throughout this entire journey. I firmly believe in sharing all the ups and downs with the community because that is how we all learn and grow. Of course, I'm really hoping there are a lot more ups ! But I know from experience, there will be downs, and when those happen you can bet I will be here learning, improving, and growing from them right alongside all of you.

As always, my DMs are open here, on Twitter, or you can hit me up via email, [email protected]. If any of you are attending Velocity Conf in Berlin or Ruby Conf in Nashville let me know! I would love to meet up IRL! Plus, I will have STICKERS!!!!
