How to Quickly Customize Interactive PowerPoint PPT Slide Animations

As you can see, there are countless amazing animated PowerPoint templates available. But you might be asking: why should I use them? How are they better than PowerPoint's built-in options? 

You can always build slide designs from scratch. But that’s time-consuming, and chances are, they won’t look as good as a professional PPT animation theme. Start with professional templates and add your content quickly for your best presentation yet. To illustrate, let’s build a trio of animated interactive PowerPoint slides.

Let’s start off by opening the Serikat PowerPoint Template. You saw this animated PPT template earlier. So, we’ll start with it. 

1. The Title Slide

There’s no better place to start than at the beginning, so we’ll go to slide 1. This is the title slide, and it’s the first thing audiences will see. 

As you can see here, the title slide has a central text element overlaying an image placeholder. Our first step will be to add our own content, in the form of text and a photo. 

To do that, first click on the Image icon and browse to a photo on your computer. Click to insert it, and PowerPoint will instantly add it. Then, swap out the title and date with text of your own.

Now, it’s time to explore the custom animations in more detail. If you preview this first slide, you’ll see that it includes a simple Zoom effect. But let’s say you want to change that to a Swivel. Let's learn how to adjust that.

To change the animation style, go to the Animations tab on PowerPoint’s ribbon. Then, you’ll need to click on the Animation Pane over on the right side of the menu. This is the control center for all things animation in PowerPoint. 

Once you’ve selected it, a sidebar menu will appear. It includes a list of all animations present on a given slide. If you click on the animation titled Group 24 and choose Play From, you’ll see an instant preview of exactly what you’ll be changing. 

As mentioned, we’re looking for a Swivel effect. To change it, navigate up to the Animations section at the top of the slide and click Swivel. 

PowerPoint will automatically apply the new animation. You’ll see it preview right on your slide. It’s easy to add cool PowerPoint animations thanks to premium template designs like this. 

2. The About Slide

Layouts like slide 3 here have many creative options. With multiple content blocks and types of content, you’ll also find more advanced animations. 

This slide briefly overviews the history of a company. It's got a title, subtitle, and four distinct columns of text. Start by clicking on each placeholder to add our own content - in this case, a background image and custom text.

Animations really help you control the pace of your presentation. Let’s open up the Animation Pane to see more. You’ll see that there are nine separate animations listed. By default, they’re set to play automatically. 

The auto-start control is in the Start dropdown on the Timing section on the ribbon above. This is great for a fast-paced slide deck. However, it means that all of the content will arrive on the slide in rapid succession. 

Suppose you want to introduce key points—in the form of each of the columns—individually. Fortunately, that’s a basic adjustment with an animated PPT template.

To make a bulk adjustment to your animations, click on the first one on the list. Then, hold down Shift on your keyboard, then click on the last animation listed to select them all. Next, go back to the Start dropdown at the top, and choose On Click. The adjustment automatically applies to all nine animations.

When you preview your changes, you’ll see that the slide appears blank. That means it’s up to you to control when animations and content will appear on the slide. It’s an easy change, and one that gives you more power over pitch and pace.

3. The Chart Slide

Slide 31 features a refined, clean chart with supporting text. It’s also useful to show off a key point about interactive PowerPoint presentations: they don’t have to be animated everywhere. Let’s add some custom content and preview the slide.

This slide looks great but suppose that we want a strict focus on the data from our audience, so let's remove the animations. We want everything on the slide to appear the moment we reach it in our presentation. 

Again, let’s open up the Animation Pane. Getting rid of animations is very simple. Repeat the steps from the prior slide to multi-select all eight animations listed. Then, press Delete on your keyboard.

Just like that, the animations will vanish, and we're left with a simplified slide. Of course, if we wanted to add new animations back, we could easily explore the Animations menu, and then rearrange them thanks to the Reorder Animation options that live in the ribbon.
