SQL & Database Monthly Wrap Up - June 2019

Hi! I'm Helen, one of your friendly mods looking after the #sql and #database tags.

At the end of each month, I'll be showcasing some of the great posts, projects and insights from the data community.

We started the month with Frank showing us how to migrate databases using migration tools in combination with version-controlled scripts and automated deployments.

Ryan showed us how easy it is to set up a Postgres database on Digital Oceans managed servers. If you're looking for a tutorial on how to get going quickly check out this post.

Arjun presented a quick tutorial on getting up and running with Amazon Athena to query data directly from S3 using a SQL client.

Milhan is studying at Flatiron School and has been learning about the types of databases available. In this post, we see the advantages and disadvantages of SQLite and Postgres.

Lucas is back with Everything you need to know about NoSQL databases to follow up the excellent article from earlier this year on SQL databases.

Mark continues the AWS DevOps Pro Certification series and shows the different engines AWS supports, the documentation to get started and CLI features to provision a table, store an item, and perform a query.

Arik introduces us to Graph DBs by comparing records and tables to vertexes and nodes, then answering questions on performance, storage and writing efficient queries. If you've been curious about Graph DBs this is a great place to start.

If you're learning about Aggregate Functions or need a refresher, this post covers what you'll need to get started with COUNT, DISTINCT and GROUP BY

That wraps up the review for this month. If you'd like to see more check out the #sql and #database tags or follow The Database Dev on Twitter.
