Apple wins $539 million in damages in patent battle with Samsung

Samsung has been ordered to pay Apple Inc. $539 million in damages, following a seven-year clash over patents which ended in a retrial.

As reported by Bloomberg, Apple sought $1 billion in the retrial, an amount it was awarded back in 2012 over several patent infringements relating to the iPhone.

That amount has whittled down as the years have gone by, and Samsung argued that it should only pay $28 million this time around. 

The damages were decided by jurors at a federal court in San Jose, California on Thursday, who were figuring out if Samsung should pay damages based on its smartphone sales, or just components that infringed on Apple's patents. Read more...
