Windows 10 is adding an 'Ultimate Performance' mode for high-end PCs

Microsoft is adding a new enhanced power mode to Windows 10 Pro for users who need to squeeze every ounce of performance out of their computer.

The new power mode is a feature of the Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 17101, released Wednesday. The preview is an early look for select users at the upcoming Windows 10 update, expected to roll out in March or April. 

The new power scheme that everyone's excited about is called "Ultimate Performance," and it's basically designed for use on high-end PCs.

Currently, Windows' default "Balanced" power plan balances a computer's performance with energy consumption. The new plan, which users can select as soon as they update to the newest version of Windows 10, will prioritize performance over energy efficiency, and will consume more power as a result.
