Apple is introducing fast charging for the iPhone X ... but you'll have to pay extra for it

The iPhone X supports fast charging. According to Apple's official specs, it only takes 30 minutes to charge its battery up to 50%. Pretty neat, huh?

But there's a problem, as noticed by Cnet: When you buy an iPhone X — or iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, which support the same feature — you don't get fast charging out of the box.

The fine print regarding fast charging on Apple's tech specs page for the iPhone X, 8 and 8 Plus, says the following: "Testing conducted by Apple in August 2017 using preproduction iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus units and software and accessory Apple USB-C Power Adapters (29W Model A1540, 61W Model A1718, 87W Model A1719)."
