This mesmerizing sculpture moves like a flock of birds

Inside the atrium of a beautiful building in Cambridge, Mass., a giant kinetic sculpture almost floats, suspended from the ceiling. 

Made up of 400 individual fabric elements that move like tiny umbrellas, the sculpture, called "Diffusion Choir," simulates the flight of around 800 birds. Each umbrella is controlled by custom software to simulate the invisible flock of birds flying around the atrium.

The sculpture is a collaboration between Sosolimited, Plebian Design and Hypersonic, who have previously partnered up to create sculptures that create unique visual experiences by bringing technology, engineering and design together. Read more...
