Melbourne's public transport routes are finally on Google Maps

Melburnians can breathe a sigh of relief: The city's public transport data is finally available on Google Maps.

Starting Wednesday, commuters in Melbourne, Australia will have access to tram, train and bus timetables within Google Transit.

It's been a long time coming. Other major Australian cities such as Sydney have had the helpful service since 2012, while Brisbane has had transit data available in Google Maps since 2013. Perth made their Google transit debut in 2008.

Things started looking up for the southern city when Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced the release of Public Transport Victoria (PTV) timetable data for use by third-parties a little more than 11 months ago on Reddit.  Read more...
