Ingenious dad builds telepresence robot to hang out with his kids

Matt Walker faced the problem a lot of divorced fathers face: How could he spend more time with his children.

The Australian dad, who lives in America, didn't want to be just a blip in his children's lives, he wanted to be there full time. So he taught himself electronics, bought a soldering iron and spent three years building a telepresence robot so he could hang out with his kids.

He called it the RambleBot.

Walker told Mashable Australia although he was interested in robots, he had no experience in building them himself until he found a practical use for them in his life. Before building his own, he used a robot called Botiful to connect in with his family. Read more...
