Researchers: Airplane drone strikes pose negligible risk

Drones and airplanes might not be as dangerous a mix as everyone thinks.

At least that's the conclusion George Mason University researchers made after studying the Federal Aviation Administration’s wildlife strike database. More specifically, they looked at bird-strike data.

Largely flown by amateurs, consumer drones are increasingly inching into airplane territory. There are fresh reports each month of drones flying within a few hundred feet of passenger jets.
