Indonesia moves to ban taxi apps, as China tries to legalize them

In a step toward regulating popular ride-hailing apps, China is pressing on with drafting new rules for taxi apps such as Uber and Didi Kuaidi. Meanwhile, Indonesia's transportation minister has officially called for these services to be banned in the country, after taxi drivers staged a large protest on Monday.

China's transport minister, Yang Chuantang, told reporters the country plans to regulate the fast-growing market by drawing out a way for drivers on these apps to coexist with traditional cabbies. These could include granting different vehicle licences to Didi Kuaidi drivers, in order to allow private cars to pick up passengers. Read more...
