Case seeking to block Pirate Bay in Australia will be the first of many

The first test of the Australian government's new site blocking law began in Sydney Tuesday, with two entertainment companies seeking to block access to multiple foreign torrent sites. 

The Copyright Amendment (Online Infringement) Bill, which became law in June 2015, allows copyright holders to apply for an injunction in the Federal Court to force Australian Internet service providers (ISPs) to take "reasonable steps" to block foreign websites that facilitate copyright infringement.

The companies, Roadshow Films and Foxtel, announced in February they were seeking to have a range of sites blocked using this new law. Roadshow is targeting Solar Movie and Foxtel is looking to have Australian access blocked to Pirate Bay, Torrentz, TorrentHound and IsoHunt. Read more...
