The Samsung Galaxy S7 stress test: Water resistant but not unbreakable

With the release of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge on Friday, it took only a couple of days for the world to get an extensive look at just how much damage the smartphones can take beyond scratching and burning

SquareTrade, a smartphone insurance company, took the brand-new Galaxy S7 phones and tested their water resistance and durability against falling, tumbling and bending. The results show that while the S7 is more water resistant than iPhone 6S models, its screen is as prone to cracking as the Galaxy S6.

While the S7 phones did well in the water-resistance test, they weren't completely waterproof. The Galaxy S7 is advertised as water resistant at five feet for up to 30 minutes. After 30 minutes in SquareTrade’s "Deep Water DunkBot," both phones had no screen or functionality damage, but the audio was permanently muffled and distorted. Still, the S7 phones fared much better underwater than iPhone 6S and 6S Plus and the company says they're the most water-resistant phone the company has tested. Read more...
